  • HOU Third Baseman #2
Bregman swatted his fourth homer of the season in the second inning to give the Astros an early 1-0 lead. Bregman has now homered in back-to-back nights and has hit safely in his last six games. He’s hitting .417 over that span and may finally be starting to turn the corner after getting off to a slow start to the season.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #35
It was another rough outing for Leiter, whose ERA now sits at 16.39 through three career starts. Baseballs No. 6 ranked prospect made it through the first inning unscathed despite a few eratic pitches but was lit for six runs in the second inning, with Josh Naylor’s three-run bomb putting the finishing touches on a disastrous inning for the young righty. Assuming he’s still with the big league club next week, Leiter’s next outing is scheduled for Tuesday against the Phillies, which could make for another challenging start.
  • CLE First Baseman #22
Naylor capped off a six-run second inning for the Guardians when he smacked a three-run homer off Jack Leiter to give the Guardians a 6-1 lead. Naylor has now homered four times this month and has hit 12 on the season while also driving in 33 runs. He’s pacing toward a career year if he can continue his strong start. He’s cooled off a bit, slashing .239/.352/.587 this month, but continues to be an imposing threat in the middle of the order.
  • MIN Catcher #27
Carlos Rodón’s second pitch of the evening was sent 429 feet into the left field stands by Jeffers, who got the scoring started with a leadoff homer. It was Jeffers’ 10th home run of the season, as he’s well on pace to top his previous career high of 14 before the all-star break. Jeffers is now slashing .278/.308/.806 in the month of May with five homers and 13 RBI.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #37
Pivetta struck out eight on the day while walking none, but he was doomed by two solo home runs. The right-hander got back on track after his rough return from the IL, posting a 29 percent whiff rate and 40 percent CSW. His sweeper was particularly dominant, getting five whiffs on eight swings and posting a 47 percent CSW. Pivetta also threw his curveball 1.3 mph harder than usual and found some success with it, so that’s something to watch for future starts. He’ll take a 3.48 ERA into an appealing start against a reeling Cardinals offense this weekend.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #55
Rodón gave up a leadoff homer to Ryan Jeffers in the first inning but settled in nicely after. Three of the six hits he allowed came in the first inning, as he went on to scatter just three more hits over the following five frames. He lowered his ERA on the season to 3.31 and is now sitting on a 4-2 record through nine starts. He’ll look to pick up his fifth win of the season on Sunday against the White Sox.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #20
Fedde took the ball for the nightcap of Tuesday’s twin bill against the Nationals and wound up scattering three hits over seven stellar frames. He wasn’t overpowering, generating just six swinging strikes, but limited Washington’s lineup to just eight batted ball with an exit velocity over 95 mph. He’s fired 13 consecutive scoreless frames over his last two starts. He’ll bring a strong 2.60 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 50/14 K/BB ratio across 52 innings (nine starts) into a road matchup on Monday against the Blue Jays.
  • MIL Relief Pitcher #29
A Connor Joe home run in the ninth was the lone earned run Megill would give up in this one. The fourth-year vet also struck out two batters in this one and now has five saves on the season. The home run to Joe was the first homer Megill has allowed on the season, and he’s given up just two earned runs over 10 2/3 innings pitched. Sitting on a 1.69 ERA and 0.94 WHIP, Megill has been as solid as they come early in the year.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #51
He’s now allowed just two runs over his last 25 innings. Sale’s slider carved up the Cubs all game, with a 44 percent whiff rate and 34 percent CSW on the pitch. The average exit velocity on all contact against Sale was just 81 mph as the left-hander mowed down the Cubs’ order. The effort gave him a 2.54 ERA on the year to go along with 61 strikeouts to just eight walks in 49 2/3 innings. He has been every bit the ace he was back before his injuries and there’s no reason to doubt he can keep it up as long as he can stay healthy.
  • ATL First Baseman #28
Olson took a fourth-inning pitch from Jameson Taillon and clobbered it 432 feet at 108.2 mph off the bat. He also had a 105.2 mph double in his first at-bat of the game. It hasn’t been the best start to the season for the slugger, but he’s still barreling the ball an impressive amount pulling the ball more than ever, and swinging and missing only a little bit more than normal. His zone contact is the highest it’s been since 2021, so both the power and batting average should be coming shortly.
